UNITE: We are healthcare professionals, students, and others interested in sharing the love of Jesus Christ through global medical ministry from home and abroad. We give our time, money, and energy to strengthen the medical ministries of The Wesleyan Church and partner organizations. We inspire each other to greater levels of commitment and service. INSPIRE: The emphasis Jesus placed on physical healing is just as relevant today as it was when he sent his disciples.  The responsibility of leading the sick while spreading the good news of Jesus Christ remains the mission of individuals and local churches. MOBILIZE: Global Partners Health Network believes that medical mission trips strongly connect health care professionals with medical ministries.  These trips give a realistic view of challenges and opportunities and provide a foundation for greater service at home and for long-term service globally. Come serve with Global Partners Health Network on short-term trips or long-term assignments with Wesleyan medical ministries and partner organizations.

365 Challenge

The original hospital on La Gonave was built in 1958. Due to damage from the earthquake, the need for a new facility became urgent. The new hospital was designed to meet international earthquake standards and was built by employing a Haitian workforce. In September of 2013, the new facility celebrated its grand opening ceremony with a little work remaining to be finished. We anticipate operations will completely transition to the new facility by June 2014. 

While the hospital currently generates 60% of its projected costs through patient fees and grants, we are launching the "365 Challenge" to raise the remaining funds. Approximately $1000 per day is needed to offset the operational costs of the new hospital. We are looking for churches, individuals, small groups, or Sunday school classes to choose a day, week or month and send the funds needed to support those days. Gifts can be recurring or one-time donations. 

The 365 Challenge will help fund:

• The immediate hiring of several medical and administrative personnel
• Across-the-board staff salary increases needed for full government accreditation
• The launch of a retail pharmacy, a badly needed local resource and income producer for the hospital
• A dignified indigent program for the very poor
• Increased partner services for the 6500 Compassion sponsored children on LAG island
• Renovations of the nursing school scheduled for the fall of 2014

Sorry for forgetting.

First, I would like to apologize for forgetting what the stated goal of this blog as seen on the blog header states.

I would like to try again to return to the original goal and revitalize this blog to 'to increase the impact and effectiveness of this ministry through prayer, financial and work team support' but will change the goal slightly.

I guess if you look at the blogs posted in 2008 I forgot my stated goal and the blog became a 'find information about the 50th anniversary of the LaGonave Wesleyan Hospital and therefore once the celebration ended so did my reason to post at this blog.

Over the next few weeks I hope to be rethinking and reworking this blog to start anew.

We just returned from a visit to LaGonave and with joy I walked through the halls and rooms of the new Wesleyan Hospital building and saw the staff working to provide care for the patients.

I picked up some brochures about some of the current ministries and their needs that I intend to share with you.

I will be looking for other web-pages and blogs to link to this page so you can learn more about the various ministries and partners.
